Interesting Facts in Sourshtra

Here are some interesting facts about Sourashtrians and our language!!!.....

1. There are 438 languages in India. 13 of them are becoming extinct... Sourashtra is one of them.
2. The first time that Ramayana was written in Sourashtra, it was written using the Telugu script.
3. Sri Venkata Ramana Bhagavathar was the chief disciple of the famous Karnatic music composer, Thiagaraja.
4. Because Sourashtrians were brought to Madurai for Nayakar's Kingdom, most of our ancestors were part of the Royal Court.
5. Depending on what region Saurashtrians live in India, they have their own dilect of Sourashtra. The dialects share lexical similarities varying between 77% and 96%
6. One of the most famous temples in Gujarat, is the Somanathar Temple, which was known to be a Sourashtra Temple.
7. There were many Sourashtrian freedom fighters that fought for Independence with Gandhi, inlcuding L.K. Thulasiram.
8. The first Sourashtrian to become a state minister was S.R. Radha from Kumbakonam.
9. The first Sourashtra newspaper was called the Sourashtra Money which was started in Kumbakonam and ran by Panda R. Govindasami. The Sourashtra Times of Madurai was started by S.D. Gnaneswaran, which still exists today.
10. During the late 1960's, "Horad Vano" was a popular Sourashtrian commedy play.
